Unread puts an orange dot on your tab
The icon in your browser tab now wears a small orange dot while notifications or messages sit unread, and a hidden tab keeps checking for more. Clear both counts and the dot goes away.

You get a reply while you're reading someone else's log, and the tab strip tells you. The little // mark now carries an orange dot up in its top-left corner. It sits there while notifications or direct messages are unread, even when you've wandered to another tab, and it clears once both counts are back to zero.
Credit goes to raz-iacob, who taught the icon to wear a second face. Instead of drawing the dot live, the page swaps both icon links to ready-made unread copies, an .ico and an .svg, so the dot is #d9480f in light mode and #ff8a4c when your system asks for dark. Counts refresh every 30 seconds in the tab you're looking at. Switch away and the checker slows to about once every five minutes, which is how the dot can show up while you're reading another tab. A hidden inbox tab polls only the numbers, so it never quietly marks your notifications read behind your back.
One catch. The dot follows your last notification filter. Set the inbox to Mentions, and a fresh star never lights the tab, even though it's waiting unread under All.
