Hit Back, keep your place in the Log

Browser Back used to drop you at the top of the Log with every discussion folded. Now the Log rebuilds itself to the height you left at, replies and all, before your scroll comes back.

You are three pages into a discussion halfway down the Log. A notification pulls you away, and you hit Back. The Log returns with the same commits under your cursor and the discussion still open, every reply you had loaded still sitting there, exactly as you left it.

Credit goes to xHeaven, who taught the Log to remember. Each card measures its real height as it mounts, instead of the 320-pixel placeholder an offscreen card uses, so the page has its full length back before the browser restores your scroll. The open discussion saves its replies, its next-page cursor, and whether it was open at all in the current history entry. It shows three replies a page by default and asks the server for at most 50 in one request. A request counter throws away late answers, so a slow refresh cannot overwrite a newer one.

There is one catch. On windows 1024 pixels and wider, every card measures itself at mount, even the ones far below the fold, so a long Log lays out cards that the offscreen shortcut was skipping. You pay that once per card, and then the browser has real heights to work with.
