Features

Pick your translation language, in any language

You can now tell the site which language to translate commits and replies into, instead of letting your browser decide. The picker searches English and native names, so "magyar" finds Hungarian.

Open Settings → Profile and there's a new Translation language box under the timezone picker. Type magyar and Hungarian rises to the top. Choose Japanese, hit Save, then open a commit and press Translate. It reads in Japanese while your browser still speaks English, and Show original flips it back.

Credit goes to xHeaven, who gave translations a per-account target. The choice is one encrypted language code on your account. Leave it empty and the browser decides, as before. The picker draws from the same ICU locale list the translator accepts, sorts by English name, and prints the native name underneath. Change the target mid-read and the page discards the translation it just generated. Cached translations live seven days, and the translator refuses any body over 16,000 characters.

One catch. You get one entry per base language. Portuguese is just Portuguese and Chinese is just Chinese, so Brazilian Portuguese and traditional script aren't on the menu. Regional codes like ja-JP fail validation. Type a variant and the save bounces with a validation error rather than guessing which one you meant.
