Remotes gets a pocket edition

The mobile app now reads your Remotes. It gives you the inbox a page at a time, a thread with a person or an org, and a read mark you send yourself. Thread images arrive on links signed for you.

Top storyTook the lead from Signed commits get the picture #660. The mobile app now browses Remotes with a paged inbox, threads with people and groups, and a read marker, so people can follow conversations on their phones. Held off 15 challengers since.

Tap Remotes in the app and the inbox slides in thirty conversations at a time, newest first, with the unread count and the requests count parked at the top. Scroll down and thirty more arrive. Type a name or a handle into the search box and the list narrows to the people who match.

Credit goes to simonhamp, who hooked the app to the same inbox and thread machinery the web page runs on. A thread hands you its last fifty messages, then as many as a hundred new ones each time you ask for everything after a message you already have, plus every reaction that changed since the version you last polled. Each image comes with a link signed for you that stays good until midnight UTC two days out, and the server rechecks that you can still see the message before it serves a byte.

One catch. Marking a thread read only ratchets forward, and never past its newest message. Ask to pull through an older message, or one that hasn't arrived, and the request answers fine but quietly leaves your place where it was. There is no way to push a thread back to unread.
