Followers hear the first commit land
When a newcomer's first commit is approved, everyone following them gets a notification with the post attached. One note per person, then silence.

You approve a newcomer's first commit, and their followers' inboxes blink. The row shows a small commit icon, the author's handle, and the words "made their first commit", with the post's body underneath and a link that opens it. Nobody had to tag anybody. You approved one post, and the people who followed that person from GitHub finally saw something from them.
Credit goes to mnapoli, who added a note to the approval step. It fires once per person, so a follower who unfollows and follows back hears nothing more, and it waits for approval, so a rejected first attempt stays quiet. A reply is never a first commit, so ordinary replies skip the whole lookup before it runs. Bots are left out, along with people who mute you or sit across a block, and anyone your commit mentions or quotes, who already got their own ping. Followers are written in batches of 500 as the notification rows go in.
There is one catch. There is no first-commit tab. The note lives under All only, so the moment you tick Replies, Stars, or Follows, first commits vanish from the list, and those tabs never count them as unread.
