The New commits pill learns to subtract

Scroll down Following or Latest and a New commits control appears with three faces. The next 30-second check now drops arrivals that were deleted, and fades away when none are left.

You're halfway down Latest when new commits land above you. A New commits control slides in under the tabs. It has three tiny avatars and an overflow badge. Your reading spot stays exactly where you left it. Delete one of those arrivals and the next check quietly drops it from the pile. Delete the rest, and the whole control fades away.

Credit goes to xHeaven, who taught the control to reconcile, not just count. Every 30 seconds the page sends the server the IDs it is holding. The server replies with the ones no longer visible. Those may be deleted, muted, or filtered out by that log's rules. The page prunes them in place, refetching the loaded range only when newer commits arrive. The log still pages 20 at a time. It previews three distinct authors, caps the overflow circle at 99+, and fades out in 450 ms. Your own commits never count.

One catch. The cleanup rides the clock. A commit deleted right after it lands can linger in the pill, and in its author stack, for up to 30 seconds before the next check catches up.
