Latest stays fresh on its own

The Latest log now pulls in new commits by itself and gives each one a soft glow. Scroll down and it keeps your place, with a pill to carry you back up when you're ready.

You're three screens into Latest, halfway through a thread, when a commit lands above you. Nothing jumps. The new row slides in overhead with a soft tint and a thin bar down its left edge, and a pill appears. It carries the message 3 new commits loaded, click to scroll up. You keep reading.

Credit goes to aaqidmasoodi, who taught the log to feed itself. Every 30 seconds the page asks whether anything new has arrived, waits a second so the pill can be read, shows a fetching spinner for at least 700 milliseconds, then swaps the list. Everything you had already loaded stays. With 40 commits plus one arrival, you're holding 41. New rows drop in over 520 milliseconds, staggered 140 milliseconds apart, and stay lit for seven seconds once on screen, fewer than two after you move the mouse.

One catch. Only Latest does this. On Following the pill still waits for your click, and Trending doesn't watch for new commits at all, because its order comes from a ranking rather than the clock.
