Remotes get a remote control

The app can now flip Remotes on or off and change who may message you, without opening a browser. Every answer hands back the same signed-in profile, unread count and all.

You're holding the phone, not the laptop. Tap Remotes off in the app and it goes quiet. Nobody can start a conversation with you, and the profile screen says nothing about Remotes at all. Tap it back on and the details return. They include who may push to you, whether you share pull receipts, and how many messages are waiting.

Credit goes to simonhamp, who wired the app's switches to the same two dials the website uses. The on-off call takes a single true-or-false field. The preferences call takes from, either following or everyone, plus pull_receipts. Both hand back your whole signed-in profile, unread count included, so there is nothing extra to fetch. Everyone is only accepted while the site allows it, and the settings call gets 300 tries a minute against the switch's 120.

One catch. Changing from only affects conversations started from then on, so requests already sitting in your Fetched tab stay fetched until you merge or drop them yourself.
