Choose your page size, and the thread does the math
A new Replies setting lets you show 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 replies at a time, three unless you say otherwise. Threads now tell you how many are left and offer to show all of them.

You open a commit with 23 replies and, instead of a wall, you get three. Under them the rail reads "Show 3 more · Show all 20". Click the first and three more slide in, the label counting down. Near the end it says "Show the last 3", then "Show the last reply". Click Show all and the whole pile arrives.
Credit goes to xHeaven, who put a Replies setting under Appearance with seven counts. They are 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25. It lives in a cookie, like the theme, so guests get it too and the first render is already right. A value that isn't one of the seven falls back to 3. Your log, profile, saved and pinned lists now preview that many replies per commit instead of just the newest one, and asking for more fetches 1 to 50 replies at a time. API clients still get the single newest preview, since they have no setting to read.
One catch. Show all is not one request. The thread pulls 50 replies per call and keeps calling until the cursor runs dry, so a 2,000-reply pile means forty round trips before the last one lands.
