Search box hands Enter back to your IME

Compose a Japanese, Chinese, or Korean word and the search box now keeps its hands off Enter and the arrows. Your half-typed word stays put while you choose a candidate.

You tap Command-K to open search, type nihongo with a Japanese IME, and press Enter to lock in 日本語. Yesterday the box ate that Enter, tossed the half-typed word, and dropped in "shipping a side project" from its six suggested searches. The arrow keys walked that list while you were still picking a candidate. Today the box holds still until the composition ends, then goes back to opening results.

Credit goes to jubianchi, who put the guard at the top of the box's key handler. When the browser marks a keystroke as part of a composition, the dialog returns without touching the key, so no highlight moves and no default is swallowed. The same guard covers the New remote picker, where Enter used to grab whichever developer the half-typed name matched. The rest is unchanged. Searches still return five commit results, developer lookups still have a 120-millisecond wait, commits still have a 350-millisecond wait, and Enter still opens the highlighted result when you are not composing.

One catch. The box stops reacting to keys but never stops searching. Your provisional characters go out on every change, so while you are choosing a candidate the list can churn. It can flash a fatal error saying nothing matches under a half-typed word. Confirm the candidate and the real search follows.
