Features

Chat photos get the big-screen treatment

Click a photo in a chat and it opens full screen, with arrows, zoom and a download button, just like the log. No new tab, no bare file.

Open a chat, click the photo you sent, and the page goes dark behind it. The image fills the screen with a counter in the corner, arrows on either side, and a toolbar for zoom, download and close. Hit ALT and the sender's description drops in over the bottom edge. Escape, a click on the backdrop or a pull down puts you back in the conversation.

Credit goes to xHeaven, who lifted the image viewer out of the log and set it over chat. A message can carry up to three images. The counter appears only when there is more than one, and the arrows step through them, as do the left and right keys and a sideways swipe. Zoom, download and the ALT toggle ride along. Downloads arrive named after the server's image ID with a .webp ending. Cmd-, Ctrl-, Shift- or Alt-click still sends a photo to a new tab, and pictures still uploading stay unclickable.

One catch. The viewer has no address of its own, so you cannot copy a link to the photo you are looking at, and the browser's back button will not close it. That is the trade for keeping you in the conversation. Press Esc, or click outside the picture.
