Avatars go on a 460-pixel diet

Your feed's faces used to arrive as 460-pixel photos for circles 40 pixels wide. Now they ask for 80, and the big profile picture asks for 160.

Open the Latest log and every face sits in its usual little circle, but the network panel tells a different story. Each avatar now arrives at 80 pixels instead of 460.

Credit goes to hbenabdallah, who taught every avatar to ask for the size it is drawn. The shared avatar requests 80 pixels by default, twice the 40-pixel circles in feeds, notifications and search so it stays sharp on high-density screens. The 80-pixel profile header and the 64-pixel blocked-profile picture ask for 160. Only photos from GitHub's avatar host get rewritten. Tom's bundled portrait and any other address pass through untouched.

One catch. This only happens where avatars are drawn in the app. The share card the site generates for links, and the preview image tags on a profile page, still use the original GitHub address, so those still pull the full 460-pixel photo.
