Features

Press C and the composer comes to you

The compose key used to fling you back to the top of the log. Now it brings the composer to you in a dialog, and your place on the page stays put.

You're a thousand pixels down your log, deep in somebody's thread, and you want to say something. Press c. The page no longer jerks back to the top. A dialog slides up with Write a commit across the top and the cursor already blinking in the box. Type, hit ⌘↵, and the dialog folds away, leaving you exactly where you were standing.

Credit goes to xHeaven, who wired the key and a new Commit button in the left sidebar to one shared routine. It measures the composer's textarea, asks the browser what element sits at the middle of it, and checks whether that element lives inside the composer's own form. If it does, the composer is on screen and simply takes focus, as before. If it's scrolled away or hidden under the sticky tabs, the dialog opens instead. Same composer either way, so the 4,000-character limit, pasted images, polls, preview and scheduling all come along, and your draft follows you in and out. Closing with Esc drops it back into the inline box. Guests who click the sidebar button land on sign-in.

One catch. Build a poll or set a schedule in the composer at the top of the log, then press c, and the dialog arrives with your words and pictures but no poll and no time. Only text and images travel between the two. Poll options and the scheduled slot reset the moment the dialog closes.
