Confetti drops when a badge pops

Post the commit that earns you a badge and 150 colored rectangles rain down the screen. Click an earned badge and the same little storm plays again.

You post the commit that finally earns you a badge, and the top of the window lets go. The 150 small rectangles in six colors tumble over the page while a toast says "achievement earned" and names it. No plugin, no button, nothing to install.

Credit goes to fernandofreamunde, who taught the commit form to celebrate. Before your commit lands, the server lists which badges you have. After it lands, it lists them again and sends only the new names to the browser. The browser paints them on a full-screen canvas that ignores your pointer, six colors, pieces 6 to 10 pixels wide, falling with a steady pull and fading out after 110 to 150 frames, roughly two seconds, then the canvas removes itself. Clicking an earned badge in the shelf or the dialog runs the same routine. If your machine asks for reduced motion, none of it plays.

One catch. Clicking a badge doesn't drop confetti at the badge. The routine takes no position, so even a click at the bottom of the dialog starts the pieces across the top edge of the window, and they fall past whatever you tapped.
